A boy has died after being found in the River Thames, police have said.

The Met Police launched an appeal on Friday to find Daniel Alaby, five, after he went missing from his home in Thamesmead, south-east London.

Officers later said a child – believed to be Daniel – had been found in the water and was taken to hospital in a “critical condition”. It was there that he was pronounced dead.

There is no evidence to suggest any other person was involved, police said.

In a statement, the Met said officers had administered CPR at the scene before paramedics took the child to hospital.

“Inquiries are under way to establish the circumstances of the incident,” the force said.

They added Daniel’s family have been made aware and are being supported by officers.
